As a charity, the RNLI relies on your support to carry on saving lives at sea. Your support is vital in training and equipping our volunteer lifesaving crews.

 Age 70

Whilst enjoying my sport of sailing I became aware of the courageous and worthwhile work of the Royal National Lifeboat Institute [RNLI] and became a supporter and life governor. To help in some small way, throughout August, September and October 2009 I am embarking on a sponsored walk in an effort to raise funds for the institute.

I am planning to walk from Poole in Dorset to the northern most RNLI lifeboat station which is at Aith in the Shetland Islands. I am asking for your support in this endeavour and your generous donations to this worthy cause via the donation page on this website.

I have always led an active lifestyle, in my youth playing both rugby and squash. I was for many years a player with Ruislip RFC and remain a keen rugby supporter and season ticket holder at London Wasps.

Having been introduced to the joys of sailing by rugby playing companion Fred Dovaston a skipper at the Ocean Youth Club aboard Francis Drake it became a passion.

I became a member of the Charnwood Cruising Association, enjoying monthly trips chartering boats from our southern harbours

A natural progression of this passion was to buy my own yacht and on retirement in 1997 realised this dream by purchasing “Minnamurra” a Nicholson 38 ketch and sailing extensively on the Mediterranean initially living aboard for 3 years.

Now a cruising yachtsman I became a member of the Cruising Association and have benefited from their services and facilities both abroad and at Limehouse H.Q. I am also a member of the Royal Yachting Association.

When not sailing I enjoy walking. I have walked across England from Newcastle to Bowness along Hadrians Wall using the facilities of the Y.H.A. This walk has been planned with information gleaned from the Rambling Association. I will have the luxury of a Motorhome support vehicle driven by a team of volutneeers who have very generously given their time.

Please lookout for me en route and give your encouragement.
